About Babe's Chicken in Garland

Well, hey there, neighbor! Welcome to our second Babe’s Chicken Dinner House right here in Garland, where we’ve been makin’ folks feel like family since we opened our doors on May 1, 1994 – shoot, we’re the granddaddy of ’em all!

Now, as you’re lookin’ around takin’ in all the atmosphere, you might spot that impressive swordfish hangin’ on the wall. That beautiful catch has quite the story – it once belonged to one of our loyal customers from way up in Roanoke who was kind enough to share it with all of us. Now that’s what I call generous as Christmas morning!

Those charming schoolhouse lights danglin’ overhead? Well, sugar, they’ve got themselves a second lease on life! They used to light up the dining room at the old Pontchartrain Restaurant, and when that place closed its doors, we rescued ’em and gave ’em a new home. Matter of fact, we saved quite a few pieces from the Pontchartrain – some of their tables are still servin’ folks right here, along with a few of their exterior doors. Waste not, want not, as my grandmama used to say!

Speaking of tables and chairs, every single piece of furniture in here has its own tale to tell. They’ve all come from other restaurants and homes, each one bringin’ a little bit of their own history and character to make this place feel like the comfortable, lived-in home away from home that it is.

Now don’t you miss that fire truck sittin’ out front – that’s a 1976 International that spent years protectin’ the good folks of Sherman, Texas. These days, though, she’s been officially re-commissioned by the TDOCC – that’s the Texas Department of Chicken Control, don’t you know! She’s ready to respond to any fried chicken emergency faster than you can say “white meat or dark!”

We’ve got more stories brewin’ than sweet tea on a summer day, so be sure to ask your server for our Babe’s Facts while you’re polishin’ off that crisp salad. After all, the best meals come with the best stories!
