About Babe's Chicken in Carrollton

Well, sugar, welcome to Babe’s Chicken Dinner House in Carrollton! We’ve been servin’ up comfort food like grandma used to make since we opened on October 4, 2004 – and honey, this old building’s got more stories than a Sunday school teacher!
Now, we can’t pin down exactly when this place was first built (some things are hazier than a Texas summer morning), but we do know that come 1911, this spot was hoppin’ as a Lyon-Gray Lumber yard. Then, quicker than you can say “two-by-four,” it switched hands and became a Foxworth-Galbraith lumber yard sometime around the 1930s. From lumber to chicken – now that’s what I call puttin’ a building to good use!
Y’all might notice that DART Rail runnin’ to the east of us and let me tell you somethin’ neat as a pin – those trains are cruisin’ right above the very same tracks that the old Katy Railroad laid down way back when. By 1908, Carrollton was sittin’ prettier than a peach, with three major railroads meetin’ up just north of the Town Square. Now that was rarer than a blue moon and slicker than a whistle – havin’ three railroads cross paths like that brought prosperity to this little town faster than gossip spreads at a church social!
Here’s a fun fact that’ll knock your socks clean off: in 1913, right across the street in that big Jackson-Miller building on the southeast corner of Broadway and Main, they opened up the very first Ford dealership in all of Dallas County! From horseless carriages to fried chicken – this neighborhood’s always been about bringin’ folks the good stuff!
We’ve got more tales than you can shake a stick at, so don’t be shy about askin’ your server for our Babe’s Facts while you’re enjoyin’ that crisp salad. Good food and good stories – that’s how we do things ’round here!
